Go Foam Yourself: A Self Care Foam Rolling Workshop

We all work a little too hard and we all love on ourselves a little too little. Let's take care of our bodies, especially when we have tension and stress. We can be more productive and take better care of each other when we feel good! 

This workshop is designed to teach you how to give yourself a massage, knowing we don't always have time or money to get regular massages. The foam roller is amazing for releasing tension, improving flexibility, increasing circulation throughout the body, and even helping to prevent injury if you do it right!

Come learn some basic techniques for a full body massage experience, find out how NOT to foam roll, plus learn how to get into some of those juicy trigger points! We'll talk about practical ways to incorporate foam rolling into your daily life. Who knows, once you start the habit, maybe more self care will follow!

Angela Lynn is a certified Thai Yoga Massage therapist and AcroYoga practitioner (partner acrobatic yoga) who's passionate about helping people live their most radiant lives, especially through self care. She a perpetual idealist who believes if we lift ourselves up, we can lift others up too, and create the world we want to see.

If you're not sure what "strengthening your core" actually means, if you're dealing with daily chronic pain due to your posture or sitting all day, or if you're looking to get stronger in your workout regimen or sport, definitely join our workshop! Duncan will deliver an incredible 45-minute core workout, but it will go far beyond that: He will introduce you to the muscles that power the movement of your core, and ultimately, your body, then teach you how to activate those muscles with a series of exercises you can do anywhere!. It is a time of discovery in exercise you will not want to miss! 

Duncan Salek has worked in health, fitness & recreation settings for the last six years. After spending a year as a media planner, he left to pursue personal training, landing jobs at The Peninsula Chicago and as a residential trainer in some of Chicago's finest high-rise apartments. Building off of Level I this level is defined by a focus on practicing Reiki on others, as well as an extended opening of the energy channels. Participants will learn to work with Reiki symbols and receive a 2nd attunement. At this level you receive practitioner level certification to do Reiki professionally on others. The additional symbols taught allow participants to connect more deeply to the universal energy force and raises the body's vibrational level another level from the 1st attunement. Participants also learn distance Reiki which may be used to clear energy blockages across time, as well as physical locations.

Participants will practice on each other, and learn the ethics of practicing Reiki as a practitioner.

The Reiki attunement opens and expands the main energy channels of the body, allowing universal energy, also known as Qi/Chi/Ki, to flow more freely. This process opens the crown, heart, and palm chakras and creates a special link to source energy. It raises the vibration of the body so that the life force energy can flow through more freely. A detoxing process begins and the attunement clears energetic blockages in the body and field. As a result, there are significant energy changes within the individual and many undergo a significant period of self-growth.

Level 1 is open to anyone. The focus is to open energy channels on a physical level, allowing the student to connect more deeply to universal life force energy. Self-Reiki is the main goal and participants are encouraged to practice Reiki on themselves, thereby entering into a relationship of healing yourself first. This is also a great first step for those also looking to become a practitioner and is encouraged for those already working with other healing modalities. It's also a great compliment for self-care for those working with yoga, counseling, massage therapy, essential oils etc.

At the end of the training participants are able to perform Reiki on themselves as well as practice giving Reiki to friends and family.

Emotions and Eating - Licensed Counselors and Health Specialists, Ryan McChesney and Samantha Elliott, reveal why it is that you reach for the foods you do when you’re feeling out of control, i.e. the ice cream or mac & cheese when you're feeling powerless or defeated. You’ll walk out of the workshop with an understanding of the chemical reactions that happen in your brain and body as a result of the foods you consume, and why eating sugar causes crankiness, exhaustion, and a need for more sugar. Ryan will explore practices for mindfulness while choosing foods, allowing you to create a whole new relationship to the food in your life.

We all say it. “As soon as I do this, then I can do that.” As soon as....I lose weight, Monday comes, January 1, this project is done, my kids grow up, I’m confident, my doubts go away, I’m happy, my anxiety goes away, etc. We have all said a version of this. Maybe we are looking for perfection, maybe it’s procrastination, or a combination of both. What would happen if we just start NOW? Let’s talk about our desire to be perfect. Let’s talk about our feeling of doing it “tomorrow.”

Let’s talk about this. Let’s figure this out together. Please join the judgment-free convHERsation. We will also hear from 4 different women as they share their personal story on this topic. All women that speak are regular, everyday women.

An Exhibition Of Healing Through Art: A Benefit

All proceeds from the event benefit a fund for the artist's recent transplant fund. Tickets are $40 in advance, or $45 at the door.

About the Artist...
Artist Kyle Willows is more aware than most of the power art holds, both for the creator, and those appreciating the creation. Kyle was diagnosed at age 2 with type one diabetes, a potentially life-threatening, incurable illness that meant a life time of finger pricks, insulin shots, dietary restrictions, doctors appointments, and hospital visits.
After 25 years of living with this condition, he contracted a severe case of pneumonia and was hospitalized. The pneumonia ravaged his body, already weakened by the diabetes, and Kyle went into kidney failure, and landed him in dialysis four hours a day, three days a week. His only hope would be a transplant, but he needed to be able to get on the list first.
Unfortunately, due to some other health complications, including losing his vision completely in one eye, and most in the other, he was denied being placed on the list for three years. Fortunately, this past July Kyle finally made the list, and received not just a kidney, but a new pancreas as well, curing his type 1 diabetes.

Throughout it all, art has been a huge part of Kyle's life, helping him to express his emotions and cope with his conditions. Hes also always been one to use his art to help others, giving it away to those he cares about to bring joy.

We could think of no better way to help raise funds as the tremendous health care costs continue to add up for Kyle and his family during the long recovery period, including a recent re-hospitalization for a surgical complication, than to share Kyle's work with the public and spread the joy it brings even further.

"I am become death- destroyer of worlds." These words are famous for being uttered by J Robert Oppenheimer upon the detonation of the first atomic bomb. They are also written on the mat below the toilet just outside of the oval office that our current commander in chief frequents while reading Everyone Poops and contemplating how Kim Jong Un thinks he's so much cooler than Donald J Trump. We originally thought that December 2 was the date that the first atomic test occurred (thus the quote) but later found out that it was actually the date that the University of Chicago conducted the first nuclear chain-reaction, bringing forth the atomic age, and giving POTUS the power to bring about the annihilation of the world with the touch of a single button. It might soon be the end of the world as we know it. Do you feel fine?

Well, if not, maybe you should join us for drinks, political banter, and comfort in the fact that you're not the only one that's more than slightly worried that the only thing saving us from total destruction is that the president's hands are too short to reach the button. There will be food, DJ Sakdadi providing us with jams, and we will probably sing "We Didn't Start The fire"... poorly.

Group Reiki Healing + Meditation

Facilitated by: Lindsay Hopkins

Participants will be lead through a meditation focused on guiding you to connect to your energy body and pull energy from source above and recharge from the earth below. Using the Chakra system each participant will receive a chakra balancing and energy healing session during the group healing. Short 1-on-1's will be administered during the session, ending with a silent savasana. Essential oils will be administered for those interested.

*all participants will receive a voucher gift of $25 towards a private 60 min session with facilitator Lindsay Hopkins, Reiki energy healer and Bodywork practitioner (sessions located in Logan Square).

We've Survived 100 Days of Trump. Let's Party!!

There is hesitation in the creation of this invitation since presently we are still 2 weeks away from 100 days of Trump's presidency. In actuality, I cannot speak to the fact that we'll survive the first 100 days fully, but IF we do, come party at Comfy Fitness!!! Following the Wolf PAC Illinois phone banking from 6-9pm to get money out of politics, we are gonna party hardy and enjoy each other's talents and company as we dance, drink and eat the night away!

Music, drinks and snacks will be provided, we simply ask for a donation of whatever you can spare. We will have a DJ and were even considering an open mic for any singers, performers or comedians that might want to share with us their talents! If you are a performer, simply private message me and we'll get you on the roster!
